Qatar Airways CEO Akbar al-Baker is Aviation’s Greatest Troll
Truly Akbar al-Baker, CEO of Qatar Airways, is a man for our times.
The great thing about Akbar al-Baker, and his access to the Al Thani pocketbook, is that when he wants to troll another airline CEO he can do it with a half billion dollar investment.
How to Turn Capital One’s New Mileage Transfers Into Great Trips
The biggest end of year miles and points news is definitely that Capital One has introduced the ability to transfer their miles to a variety of different airlines. That’s a game changer because the Capital One® Venture® Rewards Credit Card is now a double threat. When you spend on the card you earn your choice of 2% back towards paid travel, or up to 1.5 airline frequent flyer miles per dollar spent.
Here are thoughts on how to best transfer your points and book award travel using this new option.
Airline Tells Flight Attendants: Lose 5 Pounds a Month of Get Referred for Medical Treatment
Pakistan International Airlines has sent a memo to all of its flight attendants demanding weight loss.
There’s a requirement for those that are 30 pounds over the company’s rules which demands flight attendants lose 5 pounds per month with the waiver shrinking 5 pounds each month until starting in July no ‘excess weight’ will be permitted. Instead, overweight flight attendants will be grounded and referred for medical treatment.
Cathay Pacific Honoring First Class, Business Class Mistake Fares
On New Year’s Eve I wrote about $675 business class roundtrips between Vietnam and the U.S. and about first class roundtrips for under $1000.
The amazing news for everyone who took a chance and booked these tickets is that Cathay Pacific is honoring the deal.
Hurry: Cathay Pacific Business Class Back to Several US Cities From $675
Oh my goodness this is an amazing fare. You can fly from Southeast Asia to New York in Cathay Pacific business class from $675 roundtrip. Even if you book an award ticket to Asia and use this as a one way ticket to get back (and throw away the return) you come out way way ahead.
You can fly from Vietnam – the cheapest fares originate in Da Nang, but other cities work as well – to Cathay Pacific’s US gateways starting at $675.
Dave Ramsey: If You Collect Airline Miles You’re “falling for stupid credit card tricks”
I’ve used miles to travel the world in a way I never would have expected to be able to. I’ve had some amazing experiences, and done it very comfortably, for a fraction of what it would have cost to purchase these same experiences. I’m humbled and grateful for the opportunities that miles and points have afforded me.
Personal finance guru Dave Ramsey though says it’s all a con.
One Mile at a Time and Frequent Miler Miss the Point on Marriott v. Hilton
With all of the problems that Marriott has had launching their new program and integrating 3 loyalty programs into one, many customers are frustrated. Starwood members in particular have been disappointed by the customer service standard over the phone with Marriott, and with the way many Marriott properties are implementing the benefits that have been promised. In short, Marriott has failed to deliver.
Two high profile blogs take issue with my argument that as much of a hash as Marriott has made at things, the grass isn’t greener at Hilton Honors. They’re wrong.
Watch: Infant Born Inflight Emerges From Plane in Istanbul
A 21 year old woman flying from Libreville, Congo to San Francisco via Istanbul on Turkish Airlines gave birth to a son she calls Bennel during her first flight segment this month. Her husband – who is a doctor – delivered the baby three hours into the flight.
There were 144 passengers on board when the plane took off, and 145 when it landed. The rear of the aircraft was cleared to become a “makeshift delivery suite.”
