Details are Out on Bank of America’s Entry into the Premium Rewards Card Space

Aug 09 2017

Details on Bank of American’s new premium Visa product, the Bank of America Premium Rewards credit card, are now out and confirmed. The card will launch next month.

And despite the way the bank is pitching the card, and the Wall Street Journal is covering it, this does not appear to be a competitor to the Platinum Card by American Express or Chase Sapphire Reserve. It’s not in the super premium card space.

Before Nicholas Kralev covered airline travel and frequent flyer programs at the Washington Times he was the paper’s diplomatic correspondent – which is a major portfolio for a DC paper.

Hillary Clinton Explains Why the Sheraton Brand Survives

Aug 06 2017

Two years ago, when there was still a plan on the table for Starwood to be independent even as their board shopped the chain to other companies, they announced a $100 million marketing plan to revive the lagging Sheraton brand.

In fact in Asia Pacific, the Sheraton brand is strong. It signals quality. Sheratons are generally nicer than nearby Westins. The Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit is a true world class hotel, for instance.

Why Even the Best Restaurant Concepts Fall Flat in Airports

Jul 25 2017

Austin’s airport is known for only local food offerings, well except for Schlotzsky’s Deli & Cinnabon and Auntie Anne’s pretzels. I don’t love Austin Java coffee. Salt Lick barbecue isn’t great barbecue and it doesn’t translate well to the airport (the DFW airport location is worse). Options should get better, though. We’re getting a Second Bar & Kitchen (downtown location is very good upscale bar food). Now comes news of tacodeli and Peached Tortilla (very good Asian fusion) outposts, both local stars, and Jo’s Coffee well-known for the “I love you so much” wall at its South Congress location. In Austin you’re either a Tacodeli or a Torchy’s fan. I’m somewhere in between. Torchy’s has better guacamole and queso, but Tacodeli uses much better ingredients for its tacos. Cat's out of the bag. #openingsoon #austinbergstrom…

Man Pounds on Cockpit Door Cancelling Flight. He’s Not Arrested, Goes Berserk in Terminal

Jul 20 2017

On Monday evening 46 year old Aussie Gregory Butler reportedly pounded on the cockpit door of an AirAsia flight AK371 at 9:20pm from Bali to Kuala Lumpur claiming that someone was trying to kill him — causing the pilot to return to the gate.

Curiously, the man wasn’t taken into custody or apparently even questioned. The flight was cancelled, the man left the aircraft, and thus began a ‘freak out’ and 90 minute standoff..
