Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan is a really unique program, which you should know about even if you never set foot in the home base of Seattle or for that matter in Alaska.

Qatar Flight from DC Was Like Riding a Roller Coaster, Diverted to the Azores
Last night’s Qatar Airways flight from Washington Dulles to Doha hit massive turbulence. The flight diverted to the Azores, and another aircraft was dispatched from Doha to pick up passengers.
Many of the passengers onboard with unhappy with how things were handled on the ground, but it’s a difficult situation. Residents of India, Pakistan, and Southeast Asia don’t have the flexibility that US citizens do.
Marriott Begins to Implement Strategy for Making Sense of 30 Hotel Brands and My Head is Starting to Hurt
When Marriott acquired Starwood, plenty of commentators started to wonder about the future of several of Starwood’s brands. After all, many of them are small — Starwood wasn’t growing as quickly as investors would have liked, hence the selloff in the first place.
And clearly many of the brands are duplicative with Marriott’s brands. Not all of the brands perform well in their niche for instance Four Points. Even with Starwood’s Sheraton revival plan the Sheraton brand remains a bit of a mess.

British Airways Now Has Its Own Gin
The British Airways Concorde Room is kind of a pit, at least as far as first class lounges in Europe or Asia go.
However they’ve finally done something interesting: the Concorde Room now has its own gin.
American Programming Error Putting Many Business Class Award Passengers in Coach for Domestic Segments
Given the paucity of international premium cabin saver seats on American flights, combined with an inability to see award space on many partners online, I imagine there’s a reasonable number of AAnytime awards with domestic connections being booked at AA.com right now. And those members are being seated in economy for their domestic flights as a result of an American Airlines programming error. So it pays to be aware.

Will Donald Trump Save American’s Flights to Sydney and Auckland Now that DOT Ruled Against Their Qantas Joint Venture?
Although DOT wasn’t ready a year ago to approve an expanded joint venture between American and Qantas and it was possible they might ask for certain concessions in exchange for doing so (they’re asking for slots from Delta and Aeromexico at New York JFK and Mexico City in exchange for approving theirs) history suggested that American and Qantas would be able to move forward.
However — although Australia and New Zealand authorities already signed off a year ago and although DOT allowed a joint venture between US carrier Delta and Australia’s Virgin Australia — the US Department of Transportation is blocking the expanded cooperation between American and Qantas
Citi ThankYou Transfer Bonus to Hilton is a Very. Bad. Deal.
Citi ThankYou Rewards is offering a one-third bonus on transfers to Hilton HHonors through February 8.
Hilton points are generally worth half a cent apiece. I value Citi points at 1.6 cents each. Getting two Hilton points per ThankYou point means transferring points at a value of a penny. Not. A. Good. Deal. In many cases you’re much better off just using Citi points to straight up buy travel. But even that’s not the best use of points.
