The Galling Hypocrisy Of American Airlines, Which Wants The Government To Ban A Competitor

Jun 13 2023

American and Southwest, for their part, face competition in their home market. JSX is allowed to offer convenient scheduled service from private terminals, using their own security (which includes scanners, bag swabs, and ID verification), because they operate with no more than 30 seats per aircraft. American is explicit that their concern is the competitive advantage this gives to JSX.

The Longest Small Regional Jet Flight – By A Lot – Will Happen In August?

May 30 2023

The Embraer 145 is a ‘small’ regional jet, usually outfitted with 50 seats. Operators don’t usually put in a first class or even wifi, thinking that the flights are short enough and passengers usually have no real competitive options.

The aircraft’s range can push 1,300 miles and a little beyond in optimal conditions. One flight on an Embraer 145, though, has been scheduled to fly… 2,249 miles?

SAD: Airline Unions Band Together, Ask Government To Ban Better Air Travel

May 07 2023

Several air travel unions are going to the government, trying to get new air carriers banned, because they are… legal and competitive. They even cite offering a better, more compelling product to passengers as a problem. Regional carrier SkyWest created a subsidiary to run public charter flights under FAA Part 135 rules. This lets then fly planes with no more than 30 seats which have a captain that meets the 1500 hour rule but allows a co-pilot with fewer hours. The plan involved taking CRJ-200 50-seat regional jets and taking out seats. That’s actually great for passengers. And SkyWest planned to do this on poor-performing routes, where there weren’t that many passengers to begin with, like subsidized Essential Air Service routes. That keeps air service to small cities which are rapidly seeing flights dry up…

With JSX you don’t go through TSA, you can bring all the liquids you wish. And you only need to show up at the airport 20 minutes before your flight. That’s because they fly in and out of private terminals, but they sell scheduled flights that are affordable.

I was able to spend time with JSX’s executive team, learn about their strategy and challenges, and find out about their growth plans.

First U.S. Air Carrier Now Allows Inflight Internet Calling, Is It Ok To Chat Away?

Mar 08 2023

JSX planes have StarLink internet which I’ve found to be crazy fast, with low latency. That’s not just great for checking email and web browsing. It also works for video conferencing. And they’re the first carrier certified by FAA to allow it.

So when you fly JSX you can use Zoom, Teams, Google Meet, or your other app of choice – to participate in a meeting at work, call home at dinner time or bed time, and to… annoy your fellow passengers?

Airline Bans Family After Toddler Drops Chips On Floor, Spits Up After Flight

Dec 30 2022

Airline JSX has banned a family from travel, cancelling the return portion of their trip, after their toddler “dropped some chips on the ground” and then threw up as they were deplaning the Embraer-145 aircraft. If anyone is looking for a recommendation for the least family friendly airline, fly @flyjsx ! They canceled our return flight and banned us from the airline because my toddler dropped some chips on the ground and my baby spit up on our way out. — [Redacted] December 25, 2022 This has proven highly contentious. Reactions from some travelers has been to applaud the airline, and say they’re more likely to fly JSX – the scheduled charter service that flies to and from private terminals – while others are appalled at cancelling a family’s travel plans because of something that…
