Far fewer airport hotels have free shuttles than did before the pandemic. Hotels are short on labor, and they’re trying to cut costs generally, and many have dropped their airport transportation – one of the key elements of being an airport hotel. There are multiple reasons for this, Airport overnights are most common at major international gateways, and international travel slowed – though it’s coming back, and roaring back across the Atlantic with planes generally quite full. Airport hotels at outstations where crew overnight attract plenty of guests, but airlines need to provide their crew transport whether there’s a free shuttle for other guests or not. Hotels are cutting costs across the board, just like they’re eliminating automatic daily housekeeping and may not operate full restaurant hours. Hotels seem to have a frame of ‘we…

Thailand’s Military Junta Says They Won’t Execute Tourists for Taking Selfies at Phuket Airport
The beach beside the airport in Phuket, Thailand is a great spot for taking selfies but the military junta isn’t a fan.
Planes arriving over the water landing on runway 9 cross Mai Khao beach and it’s become popular to take selfies as aircraft approach.
San Jose Airport Will Combat Chick-fil-A With Rainbow Flags
San Antonio politicians decided to ban Chick-fil-A from opening in the airport over perceptions of the chain’s politics disagreement with the chicken restaurant’s donations to certain charities. Buffalo pressured concessionaire Delaware North to withdraw Chick-fil-A from its plans and will (disingenuously) paint the move as voluntary.
San Jose airport has a new approach.

Here’s What ‘Suspicious Behavior’ Can Get You Stopped at the Airport
The city you’re flying from (Los Angeles, Chicago, New York), your clothing (a hoodie), and even eagerness to get your bags at baggage claim are suspicious and can get you stopped. So can looking like someone with those characteristics that the police notice while following someone else. You’d be surprised how often you’re being watched at the airport, and that the government can stop you — and take your stuff.
Last year it was revealed that the TSA was assigning agents to follow ordinary Americans and record their behavior. That behavior was exposed and shamed, both because it was creepy and for no legitimate purpose. But creepy violations of civil liberties don’t just stem from the war on terror, they’re still a feature of the war on drugs as well.
Chick-fil-A Banned From Airport Due to its Political Beliefs
The San Antonio airport won’t be getting a Chick-fil-A. The city council awarded a new food service contract — and a condition of doing so was that the company awarded the deal had to drop its plan to open a Chick-fil-A because of Chick-fil-A’s political beliefs, that they’ve been ‘associated with anti-LGBTQ’ groups and causes.
Airport Fight — This Time It’s Employees Throwing Down
In this crazy video two employees are fighting. We don’t know when the video was taken, although it was posted to Facebook yesterday. It’s happening in the Caribbean — I think St. Croix, though I haven’t been since a US Airways mistake fare brought me in 2007 — and one of the employees is wearing an American Airlines vest.
We can only speculate what started the fight — but usually it’s passengers that are melting down. Right now though flight attendants (who are just entering contract negotiations) and mechanics (who haven’t yet gotten a new contract from the merged airline) seem to hate American. That apparently leaves other employees and contractors to hate each other.

Trump Wants to Sell DC Airports and That’s a Good Idea
There’s a lot of pushback to the Trump administration suggestion to sell off DC area airports.
I’d like to leave aside the particular proposal and make a few points about the concept, both selling the DC airports and federal assets generally. Even if you’re not a fan of the President or of ‘privatizing’ see if you can disagree with these.
