American Is Re-Opening Its International Business & (Most) First Class Lounges
American Airlines is re-opening its Flagship international business class lounges and most of its Flagship First Dining this fall, starting with Miami. They’re also re-opening all of their Admirals Clubs except Honolulu this summer. And they’re going to introduce a new way for premium passengers to access Flagship.
That’s wonderful because these lounges were fantastic. United’s Polaris lounges were probably a step above American’s Flagship lounges, but Flagship lounges were open to many more people and nicer than anything American had ever done before. American’s Flagship First Dining product was nicer than anything any U.S. airline has done in recent years, period.
When Will American Airlines Flagship Lounges Re-Open?
Clubs remain closed not just for social distancing reasons, but to control costs. They’re only going to make clubs available when there’s a revenue proposition to do so. And international travel demand, and especially international premium cabin demand (which relies heavily on business travel), is expected to come back last.
First Renderings Of The New American Airlines Philadelphia Flagship Lounge
I like the bar and buffet areas more in these renderings than I do American’s other Flagship lounges. It strikes me that wall the main lounge area design is straight from the pallet of the other lounges, the dining room is darker and a bit more modern. In some ways it feels more like a Cathay Pacific lounge in those areas. This could be their most attractive Flagship lounge.
Can You Tell What’s Wrong With This Vegetable Ramen in American’s Flagship First Dining?
An airport dining facility needs to be fast. A first class dining facility needs to be properly staffed to attend to first class passengers. This visit to American’s Flagship First Dining was neither.
Now take a look at the vegetable ramen they served and see if you can spot anything wrong with it?

The A-West Admirals Club closes September 30 to start construction on the Flagship lounge, and it’s expected to open in 2020.
