Devaluation Without Notice: Alaska Airlines Hikes Japan Airlines Award Pricing Up To 100%

Mar 14 2023

After a debacle years ago increasing award pricing without notice for travel on Emirates, Alaska Airlines made an express commitment to notify members in advance when making changes to the program.

Sadly they did not do that this week, as Monday they increased the price of award travel on their oneworld partner Japan Airlines, and they did this without any advance notice. So members who were saving their miles for a specific trip had the rug pulled out from under them.

American Airlines Passenger Demands Removal Of NFL Great From Plane, ‘My Status Is Higher Than His!’

Mar 13 2023

Desmond Howard spent 11 seasons in the NFL, after winning the Heisman Trophy as a senior at Michigan. He holds the NFL record for most punt return yards in a single season. He was Super Bowl MVP in 1997. And he’s had a tv commentator gig. That makes him more or less cultural royalty in America. He may have higher ‘status’ than anyone ever to set foot on an American Airlines plane besides the Pope.

His seat opponent tried to have him removed from an aircraft for coughing, citing their status.

Saudi Arabia has a national airline, Saudia. It’s government-owned. But the government doesn’t like it, or something? Because they’re starting a new government airline, Riyadh Air, and they’re sharing details publicly.

I liked, though, that some airlines handled their exception policies differently, for instance Delta was more flexible with young children and so wasn’t kicking two and three year olds off of planes.

I’ve been a fan of properly wearing a high quality mask. These are no longer necessary as a Covid-19 precaution as such, but remain helpful against airborne spread of viruses generally.

Northern Pacific Airways Files Its First Flight Schedule

Mar 06 2023

Northern Pacific Airways started out with a strange business plan to fly one-stop between several U.S. cities and Asia via a connecting hub in Anchorage using used Boeing 757s (including retired American Airlines planes).

They pivoted their business plan to fly between the U.S. and Mexico, and then they pivoted saying they wanted to base at Saipan, in the Northern Mariana Islands, operating from there to destinations throughout the Asia Pacific region (huh). Now they’re filed actual flight service.

Passenger Loses His Cool When He’s Unable To Sit Next To His Wife On The Plane ‘It’s Her Birthday!’

Mar 03 2023

A Melbourne-based couple traveling on Virgin Australia couldn’t get seats next to each other in business class when they booked. Virgin’s Boeing 737 premium cabin has just two rows up front.

So they took a window seat and an aisle seat on the other side of the aircraft, and tried to switch with another passenger when they boarded.
