United flight attendants haven’t had a raise in 5.5 years, and inflation has quietly taken a big bite out of what their pay is worth—so the tone shift this week is notable. The union says a final agreement is now close enough that it’s postponing a planned protest day, while United is telling crews the deal will deliver industry-leading pay, signing bonuses, and progress on “sit pay” and other long-running priorities.
The Philadelphia airport has arguably the worst American Express Centurion lounge. It’s small. The food isn’t very good or attractively presented. There’s nothing relaxing about the space.
American Airlines now has (4) really nice Admirals Clubs: Washington National E Concourse, Newark, Denver, and Philadelphia A West. However, this club just isn’t large enough. They should have made the whole thing Flagship (since the Flagship side can’t support passenger volume before the evening transatlantics) and kept the A East Admirals Club open. Perhaps they’ll ultimately renovate that space and we’ll have both a nice Flagship lounge and a large enough, nice Admirals Club in Philadephia as well.
Overall it’s one of the best credit card lounges in the U.S., though, and significantly better than the American Express Centurion lounge. It’s my favorite Chase lounge, edging out New York LaGuardia and San Diego.
I was through Philadelphia on a domestic itinerary, so I decided to redeem a Flagship Lounge single visit pass at the new Flagship lounge there to see what American had launched first-hand over in terminal A West between gates 15 and 16.

American’s new Philadelphia business class Flagship lounge that’s about to open will have made-to-order food items, something that the airline hasn’t offered since ‘Bridge Dining’ was available in the no longer open New York JFK Flagship lounge (that space is now the joint BA business class Greenwich lounge).
American Airlines has business class lounges at New York JFK, Los Angeles, Chicago O’Hare, Miami and Dallas – Fort Worth. They’ve been promising a lounge for their primary transatlantic gateway – Philadelphia – for many years. It’s finally almost here, and should be really worth the wait.
The Chase Sapphire Lounge by The Club at the Philadelphia airport opens on Thursday, February 20. The 20,000 square foot lounge in the Terminal D-E connector features a beer garden and game room with retro arcade machines and multi-screen wall with seating, as well as a la carte menu from Chef Matt Cahn of Middle Child Clubhouse including cheesesteak sliders and potato pancakes.
It appears these issues were written up in August, though they’re just now coming to light. Fortunately this club’s kitchen is undergoing renovation and it does seem as though those things could be connected – or at least they’re a fortunate coincidence.
