Lufthansa offers a promotion called Mileage Bargains but I’ve never seen anything from them this good – legitimate 75% off redemptions flying business class (and other classes of service) on their long haul leisure carrier Eurowings Discover.
I wrote last night about what’s probably the deal of the year, an opportunity to buy American AAdvantage miles at just over $0.004 apiece. A lot of readers are nervous about whether the deal will be honored because it seems too good.
American confirms that the offer is very much real.
There’s an incredible offer right now that someone hasn’t thought through the implications of. You can buy American AAdvantage miles at just over 4/10ths of a cent apiece making charitable donations (!!!) and there are other great offers as well. It will not last.
Hawaiian, United, American, Delta and Alaska are all running sub-$100 each way Hawaii fares from the West Coast. Southwest Airlines has matched the lowest of these ($62 each way) and that makes their flights available super-cheap on points as well.
You can book Hawaii for just 3154 points each way, or 6308 Rapid Rewards points roundtrip ($5.60 in security taxes each way as well). The best part of Southwest redemptions is that they are fully refundable, you can cancel and redeposit your points at no charge.
Most airline sales aren’t really sales, but this is legit. It’s a bit of an odd marketing play, though, since you don’t have to buy a Starbucks drink to get ‘buy one get one’. You don’t get a gift card for a drink when you buy one, get one. There’s no Starbucks tie-in whatsoever except, it would appear, some marketing dollars from Starbucks to cobrand the promotion.
This strikes me as a genuinely good deal if you’re traveling with someone in and out of Alaska Airlines cities.

JetBlue has a Cyber Monday deal of $50 off each one way of $100 or more (or $100 off a $200+ roundtrip).
While this ostensibly ‘isn’t valid on prior bookings’ as long as your existing trips aren’t in basic economy you don’t face change fees. As a result you can cancel your trip, bank the credits, and use those credits to rebook at the lower price.
United Airlines is running a deep discount business class sale out of several Delta hub cities. You can fly United from the U.S. to Rio or São Paulo from $1102 roundtrip for business class. This fare certainly will not last.
