Cathay Pacific Makes Two Improvements to First Class
Cathay Pacific will be rotating vintage champagnes in first class each month throughout the whole route network. This month will be 2004 Krug.
And they’re bringing back the predeparture amuse bouche for a three month trial on Hong Kong to Chicago, Boston, and New York JFK flights.
United Brings Back Tomato Juice (“Let Them Eat Juice”)
Last weekened I wrote that United had confirmed cutbacks to meals in domestic first class on flights under four hours outside of departures between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m.
There were beverage cutbacks too. That’s generated negative publicity for United. So they’re making an about face on one (and only one) change. Tomato juice.

Unfortunately it’s not whether or not a flight gets a full meal, other service elements in domestic first class are being pared back as well.

American Airlines Admirals Club have had a hit with their made to order guacamole in the afternoons.
Unfortunately it’s not available at my home airport in Austin but I’ve sampled it all around the system. Here it is in Dallas prior to the renovation of the ‘A’ Club there.
They’ve also rolled out made to order avocado toast in several lounges. Someone must have made a bit bet on avocado futures.

United Confirms Cuts to Meal Service on Flights Under 4 Hours
Wednesday United’s website indicated they were eliminating full meals on flights under 4 hours outside of dinner time. I reached out to United and they confirmed the change. This looks like a major cut to me.
American’s Great New Meal Choices, Never Have Another Bad Meal Onboard Again?
The kosher meal chicken was flavorful, spicy even, and the smoked whitefish was tasty. The pineapple upside down cake dessert was excellent.
The Muslim meal chicken was the spiciest food I’ve had on a US airline in a very long time, but it wasn’t just heat it was a complex heat. The dessert was a butterscotch tart which was delicious.
American has to be spending more on their special meals than on their regular meals.
